Client comments:

Scott was extremely patient with us as we were in touch with him for over a year before we began our kitchen renovation. He recommended all the players that we needed for our renovation and we used almost all of them: architect, kitchen cabinet retailer, counter-top fabricator, and a lumberyard for our deck.

This was our first home renovation and Scott helped us through the process. He is professional, knows his business and goes above and beyond to address questions and concerns. He is meticulous which is exactly what you want in your contractor. He was flexible with us when we asked him to start our deck in December before the kitchen renovation. (I need a kitchen for the holidays). Flexibility is also a key trait in a contractor.

During the renovation Scott came over almost everyday and kept us informed on where we were with the project and what was coming next. The two guys on his team that worked on the carpentry, Freddie and Rudy, were expert craftsmen. They included me in the decision making when the plans were not crystal clear. They were friendly towards me and my small children and they always cleaned up the space at the end of the day and let me know when the space was not safe for the kids.

We were impressed and pleased with everyone under Scott except for the electrician. He had to redo two of my light switches. One was almost 12 inches from the doorway and it was behind the opening of a pantry door. Second, he did not line up the light switch with my thermostat in the living room. I had to pay to have both moved and that bothered me because I think it was his mistake. And my electrical outlets are at three different levels on my back splash.

Many of my friends have terrible renovation stories and I have nothing to add as ours was a pleasant experience from start to end. I do wish we had a 3-D version of our plans as that would have made things easier for the guys when installing some of the cabinets.

Scott estimated that our new kitchen would be ready in 5-6 weeks. We started in January and even though we lost a day or two due to blizzards and added more days due to some new molding and trim he finished in 6 weeks. I wholeheartedly recommend Scott and his team.

Description of work:

We gutted our 1983 kitchen all the way down to the sub floor. We added new hardwood floors, cabinets, granite counter tops, appliances, new window and a new exterior door. He enlarged two openings between the kitchen and the family room and the kitchen and the dining room. He built a new deck off of the kitchen.

We found Old World Craftsmen on Angie's List when looking for a good local contractor, and were immediately impressed with the excellent reviews by previous clients. When we started, Scott came over to the house to advise us on the multiple renovations we had in mind, and gave us a lot of smart practical advice - in fact, he counseled us not to over-do the job and saved us from overspending to achieve our goals. He brought together an excellent team of sub-contractors who undertook a range of work, including carpentry, plumbing, marble restoration, laying a tile floor on an uneven concrete surface, removing hard-to-remove wallpaper, replacing a custom wrought iron railing, and repainting some interior walls that required careful prep work. His team of subcontractors was reliable, hard-working, easy to communicate with, and spent the time to do the work right. Their pricing was fair; we had priced out one of the jobs separately (the crafting of a new wrought iron railing for an outdoor entrance) and his person charged significantly less than what we'd been quoted by another firm. We ended up expanding the scope of the job to include the replacement of several original casement windows with new custom-sized Marvin windows, and Scott coordinated the installation of those so that all went seamlessly and on schedule. We'd feared this would create a big mess, but the install was done primarily from the outside, and the interior stucco walls and related carpentry and painting repairs were accomplished with little fuss. Scott was hands-on throughout, and came by frequently to check on progress and monitor needs. His training as a structural engineer came in handy, as he was able to point out and address certain things that needed to be modified to keep an older home in compliance with plumbing codes and other local regulations. We are delighted with the improvements throughout out house. We will certainly call on and refer Old World Craftsmen in the future!

Description of work:

We hired Old World Craftsmen for multiple renovations and upgrades in home, including a cosmetic renovation and installation of new fixtures in a master bath, upgrades to our laundry and boiler room, wall paper removal, painting, and the replacement of oversized original casement windows in a 1930s Tudor.

They finished my basement, on time and on budget. Very efficient job, but quality was certainly not sacrificed in favor of speed; a rare combination of the two. True, you might be able to find a cheaper provider, but better value? Highly doubtful! Scott is great to deal with and his people are top notch! Absolute attention to detail and only the highest standard of craftsmanship will be delivered.

This was the third significant project I have used Scott and his team. Scott is fantastic at what he does and provides the rare blend of a knowledgeable contractor with someone who knows how to understand and communicate with his customers. All of my projects with Scott, he has been very punctual, transparent on all progress and hurdles encountered (since they always do on an old house) and innovative at the same time. Scott was a one stop solution providing a reference to an architect with whom he works closely with and who I ultimately went with also. Our bathroom now has a huge walk in shower with a bench and new double vanity. Scott coordinated with his reputable plumber seamlessly for me and I never had to worry about who was in my house and that the work was being properly supervised. I am witting this review on a bit of a delayed basis relative to the work, so I can even say in hindsight that we have been nothing but pleased with everything and enjoying our new space and master suite. I just recently invited Scott back to my house for an additional bathroom renovation and some other odds and ends which I know I can trust him with. I plan to continue to work with Scott as my provider of choice going forward.

Scott helped us through choosing the style and type of door and hardware. Installation went really well and there was no construction mess. The painter who stained and finished the door and the trim did an outstanding job and it looks absolutely beautiful. This is the second large project I hired Scott and the team to perform at one of my homes. Scott was very involved from the very beginning in all aspects of the project including the design, selection of materials, and even helping to dispose of a large hot tub to a willing and able buyer who came to pick it up which saved me the headache of trying to figure out what to do with it. Scott is always around on a daily basis to check in on his workers and the progress made so as to make sure your getting the value of hiring a GC.The end product came out great and we are extremely happy with the new patio. The development of any outdoor project naturally presents additional challenges that working indoors does not and could clearly affect a timeline. Although we encountered some rain along the way Scott made sure the team worked hard to keep on pace and deliver on his proposed timeline initially. In addition, certain discoveries were made relative to the structure under the original deck which needed to be refitted and additional support added where needed. Scott was able to quickly mobilize a masonry crew which was not originally anticipated and got what needed to be done complete in a timely manner. Scott and his office help are also extremely organized and on top of billings which include clear and concise details regarding any payments and billings needed for any additional hurdles that arise along the way. It is a pleasure to work with Scott and his team and I just hired them to renovate an entire master suite and bathroom which I hope to write a similar great review on upon completion.

Client comments:

We started off checking the reviews on Angie's List, specifically looking for someone local. After contacting a few contractors, we met with Scott. While I can understand that people might be put off by a consulting fee, I feel that it was necessary for both Scott and myself since it meant that we were both taking the process seriously.

Scott was very friendly and understanding since this is the first time that we've done anything like this. After years of apartment living, a whole house rehab was daunting. He took the time to explain everything to us, especially our concerns and how to address them.

Modern schedules being what they are, Scott and his team were excellent in communicating with us even though our schedules didn't mesh well. He was always available on the phone or via email or text. His proposals were itemized and well laid out, and he double-checked any concerns we had while going over them.

With his connections in the area, we were able to use vendors that were well established and reasonable. His sub-contractors were professional and efficient. In fact, his fantastic painter Vito had him double check with us regarding the yellow paint for the living room. Thank goodness he did as the color on the wall did not match the chip (it was like being inside a highlighter)! We were able to quickly choose another color and the walls were quickly repainted.

Working with Scott was a pleasure, truly. Looking into the future, we know we will have additional projects, and Scott and his team will be our first call!

Description of work:

We did complete rehab on a newly acquired home that was last renovated in the 70s. Old World Craftsmen came in and brought the house back to what it was before! The floors were all stripped and refinished, all of the walls were painted, the kitchen got a minor face lift, and we combined two smaller bedrooms into one master. The house was brought up to current energy and insulation standards. Considering the amount of work done, especially during the holidays, Scott and his team did an exemplary job!

I did not have any connections or personal references upon contacting Scott and his team prior to finding his stellar track record on Angie's List. I had Scott come into my home and provide estimates based on the scope of work which I defined, as well as the thoughts/ideas Scott came up with on the spot. Scott provided his very detailed estimate of the work in a timely manner by the day he said I would have it and I subsequently elected to work with him. I was satisfied with all of the work performed by Scott's team and greatly appreciated the detailed attention he paid to the agreed upon timeline. Scottt is very engaged directly in the work and is on site everyday overseeing projects as needed. He is also extremely timely on communicating any additional tasks and related costs which come up during the course of any remodel on an older home. Scott was very helpful identifying means of saving costs via alternative means of getting me what I wanted complete. Scott's team also operates very cleanly and on schedule which was greatly appreciated for someone who lives alone and likes a clean house when I get home at night.

I will definitely be hiring Scott in the future to perform additional services. I could go on an on in great details here on the great job but most importantly Scott has my information if you would like a reference.

Client comments:

We hired Scott Simonsen's Old World Craftsmen to restart a renovation that in an incredibly short time had turned into a financial and logistical nightmare. Scott surveyed the half demo'd place, asked what we wanted to spend overall, submitted a detailed bid that was lower than the other contractors also bidding and stayed with his original numbers throughout. Every time we wanted something extra from a new vendor, he recommended one he had worked with, organized the bid and we moved forward. Every time we wanted him to do something extra, he submitted paperwork with the new cost estimate to make sure we knew the numbers. Most of all, however, his craftsmanship was excellent (and we have lots of experience with much costlier and more famous crews), from supplying better materials during construction and paying attention to soundproofing where he thought a little extra was called for to making sure the soffits were neither too big or small for the space; from helping us choose all the materials --doorknobs, locks, doors, baseboard molding, supplies for closet shelves and wainscot his crew expertly built--to making helpful design suggestions that improved the overall look.

Description of work:

Complete renovation of 3 bedroom, 2 bath condominium on a high floor of a 1970's concrete building, a challenge by itself. Working from basic architect plans, Scott Simonsen, Old World's owner and his crew and subs, rebuilt every part of the apartment, installing new bathrooms, working with unmoveable plumbing to make sure we got everything we wanted, that it all worked, including the high end kitchen, that we didn't antagonize the neighbors or the building and that in the end, it looked as though we spent twice as much as we did. Scott's attention to detail was excellent and his professional and expert crew did wonderful work, never left a mess and were a pleasure to deal with.

Client comments:

Other than the surprises that old houses bring--no fault of the contractor--it was perfect.  The work is beautiful and Scott has an especially good sense of aesthetics; he made great suggestions on how to improve this or that along the way.  I inadvertently caused a delay by approving back-ordered plumbing fixtures, but excluding this, the project was completed in five weeks.

Description of work:

I had drawings for a major remodel of an existing screen porch, which had been cheaply enclosed.   The city permit authorities required notarized drawings from a NY state architect, so Scott connected me with a local architect he has worked with.  The plans were redrawn to meet local requirements and approved by the architectural review board.  The plan expanded to include a new front door, all new windows on the first floor and a gut remodel of the powder room.  The ugly screen porch was transformed into a lovely den with new windows, ceiling, flush hardwood floor to match the adjacent living room and a built-in bookcase.

While Old World Craftsmen was not our initial first choice, when our original contractor went unresponsive we turned to OWC for a quote based on the company's Angie's List review. It turned out to be the best possible move! Scott Simonsen and his team were attentive, provided us with insight based on regional remodeling trends and helped us resolve all the challenges that surface when remodeling an older home. They recommended local tile, glass and other venders who offered quality product at reasonable (Westchester) pricing. The project was completed on time and within budget. Scott and Dulce ensured that all proper paperwork was filed and all permits secured. We could pay invoices online and invoices, payment confirmations and receipts were easy to file in e-folders for future reference. As an added bonus they were a delight to work with throughout the process. Scott's the kind of guy you would want to have a beer with on a Friday after work if he wasn't your contractor and Dulce can offer fantastic free fashion footwear advice if you're interested. Furthermore, the various site workers did their best to keep the dust under control each day and the rooms tidy even while under construction. While not the most inexpensive quote we received, the value for service and quality of workmanship was well worth the investment. We recommend OWC without any reservations and have done so already,

Scott is an amazing partner. This was not our first construction project by any stretch of the imagination. Owning a nearly 100 year old house means you are knowledgeable of the construction process. Of all the projects we have done, from small to large (a total kitchen remodel and extension) the experience with Old World Craftsmen has been head and shoulders superior. The process with Old World Craftsmen was easy and professional.

  • The first meeting was efficient and Scott listened to what we wanted for the bathrooms and drew up a scope of work and quote which accurately detailed the discussion and broke down the costings.
  • The main work was carried out by Old World Craftsmen who were always professional and produced a high standard of work. In  addition when scope changes occurred these were carried out with quiet acceptance and any additional costs were notified beforehand.
  • All the sub-contractors, plumbers, tilers and electricians produced a high standard of work which was supervised by either Scott or his team to ensure it met customer requirements.

In summary, Old World Craftsmen have produced 2 great bathrooms to a high standard. They were always considerate of what the customer wanted and ensured the minimum of disruption to the household. I would definitely use them again for similar projects as they were always keen, professional and listened to what we wanted.
Thanks Old World Craftsmen.

The project took approximately 5 weeks from start to finish. Scott Simonsen and Old World Craftsmen were very detailed in their project plan. They arrived on appointed date and set to remove everything from the bathroom with the least disruption to the rest of the house and proceeded to restore to its complete new image. Each day the team would arrive and set up their tarps and room dividers so dust and debris would be limited to only the work area. The crew is professional, diligent, and curtious. Scott Simonsen was always on top of the needs of the project and communicated well to his work force as well as to us, the homeowner. All concerns were easily addressed and changes implemented if necessary. Scott's electrical engineering mind usually leaves no detail unexamined. The completed bathroom is wonderful and meets all of our expectations. I highly recommend this company!

Client comments:

The end product was far better than we even imagined it could be, and we are convinced that no one else was likely to have given the attention to detail that Scott delivered.
We recommend OWC highly for all remodeling jobs, big or small, and can tell you that OWC does what they say they will do, on time, and at the quoted price.  This is very unusual in this industry in our experience, and we have worked with several other contractors.
OWC is honest, trustworthy, and will give you full transparency in a bid.  Because architects do not specify materials in most drawings, it is very difficult to compare bids unless you have someone like OWC working with you.  It is important to understand how the cost of materials drives a quote, and most people simply do not have the patience or tenacity to do so.  It is a mistake.
We are very pleased with OWC and give them our highest recommendation.

Description of work:

Old World Craftsman has done significant work on our home, including a major remodel in 2008 where we redid the outside of the home and completely gutted and reconfigured the master bath.  We were extremely satifisfied with OWC's work and recommend them highly.  Old World Craftsman is led by Scott Simonsen, an extremely detail-oriented and organized contractor.  Mr. Simonsen is a "cut above" the typical contractor, and holds an undergraduate degree in engineering, not something you see every day.
We hired OWC to convert an outdoor built-in charcoal grill from the 1960's to an automated gas fireplace.  Scott came initially to assess the job, and immediately had some excellent ideas on how to do the project, including use of materials, what the end product should look like, etc.  He was very creative and thoughtful.  He subsequently submitted detailed drawings for our approval.  The job involved mulitple trades, including masonry, plumbing, electrical, carpentry and trim work, as well as painting.  While it was a relatively small job, you wouldn't think so based on the time and attention to the project devoted by Mr. Simonsen.

All of the projects with Scott and Old World Craftsmen have gone smoothly from meeting him and discussing the projects to the final day.  He made one promise to me that he always fulfilled and that is that he would never leave the project until it was completely done.  And what has astounded us is that all of his projections in time for the building/renovations have been totally accurate.  There have been no "mistakes" or "unfortunate occurences" with Scott and his men at all.  Plus he recommended a wonderful architect that we would use again.  I can't say enough good about the whole experience!

Description of work:

Scott and his wonderful employees installed a new bathroom, patio & kitchen for us.  When I first met Scott, I was aware he was like no other contractor that I had ever met.  He was polite, smart, good humored but most of all attentive to everything that I wanted.  He was really "with me" with regard to the design, budget and projected further projects.  His vision is what ultimately created two fantastic rooms that are worthy of being included in Architectural Digest.  And because  I wanted so many custom finishes he and his men really went far beyond what I had envisioned to make it happen in their own wood working workshop.  I could not believe Scott's attention to detail and his professional standards that are kept so high.  That is what has kept us using him and looking forward to that high standard so we don't have to worry about anything.  But I cannot stress enough how he stands out from every other contractor that we have ever used or contacted.  He is an engineer and designer who works at the highest possible level.

Old World Craftsmen have become our contractor of choice. We have tried many contractors over the years and have not had much luck. We have actually put off a great deal of work because we could not find someone we could trust. We hired Scott and his company for one project and have since retained him for 5 more and have 2 others being planned. The good experience starts with his planning. Scott treats each project as if it involved his own home and his own money. He suggests lower cost alternatives when appropriate and makes great recommendations for materials and aesthetics. Finally, he has a great network of skilled people/firms who carry through on his plans. The end result is a very satisfying experience. You really feel comfortable leaving everything in Scott’s hands and then you enjoy the results. This is contracting the way it was meant to be.

Completely remodeled kitchen and upstairs bath.  Added insulation to attic.   Also attended to several miscellaneous repairs/changes that we needed done - corrected misaligned doors, replaced door knobs, regrouting.  Scott did a great job pricing the job and worked with great efficiency to get the job done correctly and on time.  His oversight of subcontractors was excellent and I felt that the project was well coordinated.  I was particularly glad that he also was willing to oversee the final painting - and return trips from the painter to finish certain corrections -- as I've found that dealing with painters at the end of a project can be trying.

Description of work:

The project went very smoothly.  Scott understood that we didn't want to start until all the items we needed were ordered.  Once everything arrived and we started demolition, the work proceeded at a great pace.  I particularly appreciated the input I received from him and subcontractors on certain questions that arose in the process (like what type of epoxy to use for the kitchen tile).  I am also pleased with the level of service that we are currently receiving on certain items that need fine tuning (such as cabinet hinges that need adjusting, etc).   The crew was very respectful of our living space and keeping areas of the house clean and protected.   We intend to use OWC again in the future.

We purchased an older home and had the interior painted.  The painters uncovered moisture behind the walls.  We found that there had been a very old leak in the roof which over many years caused the beams in the house to rot away.  Scott and his crew came in and gave us a great estimate of what he would do and how long it would take.  They were incredible!  He actually quickly got his crew in (during the busy summer time) and got the problem resolved prior to us moving in which was a short time frame.  His crew was fantastic.  They were very good and cleaned up very well.  The work they did turned out great.  After, Scott even called the roofer we used to make sure he resolved the problem so we wouldn't have the same issue all over again.  They were very professional and had a great attention to detail and seemed to be very much a perfectionist.  He has a background in structural engineering which was just what I wanted.

We had to have 2 major beams in the house replaced (both from the upstairs leading downstairs) due to water damage rotting away the wood.  They had to replace the beams and sheet rock and determine if there were any other issues.

Client comments:

Old World Craftsmen and our experience with them has been exceptional in every way. We found them on Angie's List and interviewed them along with 3 others.

During our initial meeting, Scott Simonsen listened carefully to our need to upgrade rooms without the investment of full renovations. He immediately became a partner and collaborated with us on where our dollars would best be spent to get the results we wanted. He followed up with a very detailed written proposal that included options for us to make the best decision. In fact, he provided two proposals because we were somewhat conflicted between a full renovation and an upgrade. The proposals were thoughtfully created and included not only the price, and timeline, but a clear breakdown of everything we discussed, which educated and helped us make our decision.

Once the proposal was signed, Scott and his team arrived at the appointed time and Scott began with introductions of his team. It was instantly apparent that the team was an extension of the professionalism and knowledge we first experienced with Scott, and his style of leadership was also made clear. He led by example and with extreme respect for the work, the quality, and for the team. The work was exceptional and the quality exceeded our expectations (e.g. our laundry room was once a room full of exposed concrete and pipes and is now one of our favorite rooms in the house!) Scott remained engaged and responsible for all aspects of the work and orchestrated the multiple projects that were often being conducted simultaneously. He stayed true to his initial proposals, relative to the work effort and timeline. In truth, my husband and I were the guilty parties because we kept adding more to be done. Through it all, Scott and his team remained gracious and responsive. As an example, the gutters were an add on that he included by seamlessly re-assigning work and resources so that multiple efforts were underway. At all times, he was aware and respectful of our time and of completing the work efficiently.  My husband and I have actually enjoyed the process and fully trust and respect Scott and the exceptional services he provides.

In summary, we are now loyal clients of Old World Craftsmen and Scott Simonsen, specifically. Here's why:- Integrity and leadership- Knowledge and professionalism- True partnership in the outcome- Pride in the quality of work- One stop access to full services - True Old World Craftsmen

Description of work:

Upgrades made to 2 bathrooms (shower, tile, plumbing, fixtures, floor re-grouting, wall repair and painting)- Laundry Room renovation (drywall, shelving, flooring, electrical, painting)- Full replacement of gutters, wood replacement, new leaders- Bay window wood replacement, repair, and painting.

From the initial phone call to schedule an estimate until the last member of the cleaning crew was done making everything sparkle, it has been an absolute delight to work with Scott Simonsen, Owner of Old World Craftsmen, LLC. Having dealt with several contractors over the years with mixed results, it was a relief to know that Old World Craftsmen was one the job, and my search for a permanent contractor is now over. This was no small project, as it lasted for over 10 months, due to an attic pipe bursting and causing major flood damage necessitating a complete down-to-the-studs renovation. Every single member of the team, from electricians, plumbers, HVAC crew, flooring, demolition, architect, back office, and most importantly, Scott himself, showed the utmost professionalism the entire time they worked to get us back in our house as quickly as possible. There were many instances where suggestions and recommendations were made on the fly that resulted in both a better aesthetic result and a cost saving as well. The end result was simply spectacular, the timeline never changed, the project actually was ahead of schedule, and many workers came over several weekends to keep it on schedule. If anything positive can come out of being displaced for almost one year, it's that when we walked into our home, it was put back together in a way we could never have imagined!

• Demolition
• Working with architect on plans
• Filing of all permits
• Scheduling of all work

• Radiant heat
• New gas lines

Client comments:

All the work they've done with us has been absolutely great. We have never had a situation where we have had to bring any deficiency in quality of work or service to their attention. This starts with highly skilled carpenters and other craftsman that really know their business, but also is reflective of Scott's (the owner) eye for detail and diligence. While some of the jobs have required intricate hand carving to recreate old world detail, and others have just required on the fly decision-making to adjust to existing conditions, they always come up with the right solution. Their crews are professional when their in the house, and they always clean up when they leave. Old World Craftsman lives up to their name in terms of the quality of their work, but their service is absolutely 21st century.

Description of work:

Over the last six years, Old World Craftsman has done at least 8 jobs for me, with a total cost of approximately $80,000. Everything they have done has been excellent. This has included new doors, windows, and exterior renovation and some more general maintenance items. We have an 85 year old house with lots of original detail, and they have done a fantastic job or recreating some of these flourishes in their renovation work. Recently, they replaced some some carved beams that are set in the stone wall and are cantilevered to support a balcony. They only had to replace 3 of the 4 beams, but they reproduced the carvings so well that you cannot tell which beam is the original. They've also recently done some more routine work for me, like adding some French doors. Of course, in an old house, even routine jobs can have some surprises, and they deal with these professionally and fairly.

Client comments:

The job was scheduled for two days and possible three day for final touch-up. The job took 4 days.

On day one, Mr. Scott Simonsen (owner) and Freddy (carpenter) had the exterior door and storm door removed. Interior sheet rock was removed to allow access to and removal of old door header and to begin new door framing from inside the house. The contractor wanted to frame the new door opening from inside to leave the cutting of the exterior siding for last. Framing of door took some time due to new door frame and header is wider than old door frame because new door was including a sidelight that the old door did not have. Interior vestibule has a closet that needed to stay intact. Careful measurements and framing were done to ensure closet was not lost during installation of new door frame. Electrical wires were also repositioned during this time. Siding was cut and door was placed into position to end the first day.

Day two: Door removed and repositioned for tighter fit. (On the end of day one, the door was just placed into position for security purposes). Electrical was continued. Replacement of sheetrock.

Day three: Exterior detail of door and siding done. Electrical wires all connected. Partial ceiling replaced with sheet rock and plaster done. Contractor found that partial ceiling had to be replaced due to previous leak. This was recommended by contractor to replace and I agreed to have it replaced. Interior door moulding placed.

Day four: New storm door, new door hardware, new sconce, new door bell, new interior light replaced all other details taken care of.

Note: On day two and three, things were interrupted by mother nature. It would rain heavily and stop. That Saturday and Sunday, the hurricane surge passed over us. Special attention was placed to exterior and interior detail of the door and that is where most of the time is spent. I had no problem with the job extending an extra two days for a job well done. Replacing a front door might sound simple, but much of the work goes into the details that goes unseen, i.e framing, moulding, hardware, leveling, etc.

Description of work:

Replace single front storm door and front entry door with a single sidelight frame door and storm door. Careful attention had to be placed on the exterior aluminum siding since the original door frame needed to be widened from a single door entry to a single door plus sidelight frame. (Siding was not planned to be replaced at this time). Header and door frame replaced. Removal of old exterior sconce and repositioning and replacing of new exterior sconce. Repositioning of interior light switches and alarm keypad. Removal and replacing of interior light fixture of entryway.

Client comments:

The job came out fantastic! The desired look of hand ax-hewn half timbers around the window came out perfectly and matches the rest of the house. After the attic fan was carefully removed, the space was sized and the window fitted to it; everything was sealed and weather proofed. Finally, the window was inserted and those half timbers installed. He also carved out pediments to match decorative carvings on another part of the house, but we did not install these (yet), just in the interest of simplicity; the carved pediments came out great though.

We are totally pleased with the job, and feel that Scott has a good engineering mind, and can figure out how to negotiate the generally non-standard issues that can not be avoided when working on older homes; the skill set of those times is not usually required or available in the world of today.
Also worth noting is that they maintain a clean work site. Scott and his team are truly craftsmen.

Description of work:

Basically, the job was to remove an ugly and huge attic fan from a 1929 tudor attic and install a restored leaded glass window into the opening. Also required was to match the textured half timber surround of the window with the rest of the house. Existing half timbers have a chiseled or hand ax-hewn look, so this texture had to be duplicated.

Work was done during October to fit arrival of fixtures and vanity. Since we were remodeling both bathrooms, OWC timed the work to insure we had at least one usable bathroom, which required juggling subcontractors schedules. Demolition was done quickly and carefully. Installation of tile, plumbing fixtures, vanities, cabinets, lighting and countertops all went smoothly.

Description of work:

Fully remodel one bathroom, partially remodel second. We purchased plumbing fixtures, vanity, tile through introduction to vendor by OWC. The work was done promptly and with high quality. I would recommend OWC for doing a quality and professional job. OWC is not a low priced service provider, but you get what you pay for.

Scott and his crew have been great to work with. We had just a couple of weeks between buying our home and moving in. Scott and crew were able to make replace the crown molding, base board and in the living room and dining room, and replace the flooring in the front hall and powder room. Then the finished areas were painted. There was a tight schedule and Scott and his crew worked with the schedule and the work that was completed is very high quality. We are planning on using Old World Craftsmen to remodel the kitchen.

Description of work:

We bought a house that needs some work. I had some time prior to moving in so I started looking at contractors. I was impressed by Scott. We decided to use Old World Craftsmen. We broke the work into 2 phases, work to be completed before we moved in and a major kitchen remodel.

Fantastic Work at a Fair Price! From the initial estimate to the final clean-up everything was done with the utmost care and great attention to detail. I'm so thrilled that Scott, the owner, who is highly educated from a top university decided to offer his brilliance through his company's very high-end carpentry and general contracting services. Scott is an excellent leader and his crew is very talented and eager to exceed expectations. They all seem to ACTUALLY ENJOY the work they do and have an upbeat attitude each day on the job site. My only issue is that when i needed them to come back for a very small job they took somewhat longer than I would have liked to return. Given the AMAZING work they did overall, however, I would still give them an A+ + and use them again without hesitation

Description of work:

They did a great job on remodeling our family room, installing crown moldings, and fixing a section of floor. They also designed and retrofitted some new shelves and cabinetry where we had shelving before. Overall it was a good experience. The group is very hard working, punctual and professional. They were competitively prices with 2 other estimates I received as well. I would say the work was good. It was a difficult job as the door frames in my house are steel and any irregularities they have need be adjusted by trimming the actual doors. The team did a good job on this but there were a few things I had to fix myself after the work was done as some of the doors were difficult to close fully. However the team was willing to come back and fix anything which was nice but unnecessary as I could easily handle the fixes. I would recommend them as they were good and very fast.

Description of work:

They replaced every door and hardware in the house and re-framed our bedroom closets to allow for 2 larger doors. They did a complete re-model of our kitchen which, included multiple custom built storage solutions to fit in unusual spaces and a custom crown moulding. We have also used them to replace all the baseboards in our home and installed a chair-rail in our front foyer and dining room. Most recently they installed crown moulding throughout our home.

Client comments:

Overall - both myself and my wife were happy to have Old World Craftsman perform each of the jobs. I tend to want to micro-manage construction done on my house, or at least watch it occur, although I cannot due to my work. Old World Craftsman and its owner, Scott, has earned my trust - I know when I come home each evening that the construction area will be clean and organized - without dust, paint, caulk or nails anywhere outside of the sealed off area of construction. Scott holds himself and his people to high level of quality - and I noticed that same degree of care applied to both large and small jobs on our house. We were very satisfied with the work done, and wouldn't hesitate to enthusiastically recommend Old World Craftman's services.

Description of work:

Old World Craftsman over the past several years has a performed renovations and remodeling for us on three separate occasions - each time they were a pleasure to work with. The first set of changes included removing a wall between our kitchen and dining room in order to make a 'great room' or family room. This also included custom creation of a large countertop and stools which would be installed in the place where the wall used to be. This worked out very well. In addition, radiators and electrical outlets were moved so that Lincoln French doors with sidelights could be installed on the entire wall facing an elevated deck. This added a good amount of sunlight to the room - and since an existing large window was on that wall, it was carefully moved and re-installed on the wall adjacent to the French doors. On the next visit, Old World Craftsman installed a triple-bank of windows in the master bathroom along with two custom built closets and shelving. The care that went into the questioning on the style, size and placement of the windows in order to match the look and feel of our colonial was appreciated. The trim, molding and attention to detail made the job come out quite nicely - and I was also pleased with the fact that the exterior siding and treatments (shutters) on the house matched the existing siding and treatments perfectly. It was nice to know that my own wishes were courteously countered with suggestions that only an experienced GC can offer - other GCs might've just done what I wanted, but they outcome would've been far inferior. Old World asks the proper questions in order to helpfully guide the homeowner through the process. The third visit included a good amount of electrical work (ceiling fans, etc) and more windows! This time another triple bank of windows was put into our kids room and this made a huge difference in the available light. In addition, every single room door and closet door was replaced with raised panels - Old World took the time carefully fit, adjust and level each door since I am not sure too many right angles exist in our house any more. Old World also performed a number of other smaller services while at the house - including completely removing old stucco interior walls, floor replacements, beadboard installation, painting and various finish/trim work.
